Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
